How we chose: I shortlisted walking pads and compact folding treadmills sold in the UK, from slim under-desk pads to 2-in-1 models you can jog on, and left out large running treadmills. For each I checked the listing or retailer page for speed range, maximum user weight, running surface, size and how it folds. On 25 October 2026 I reopened every Amazon.co.uk listing with a UK delivery postcode to check it was in stock with an add-to-basket button and noted the seller, and checked the Argos pages were live. I don't show prices, because they change daily, and I haven't tested these treadmills myself. These products have not been tested hands-on; this is a research-based roundup. How the research works.

A walking pad is a slim, motorised treadmill with no handrail (or a fold-down one), designed for walking at home, often under a standing desk while you work or in front of the TV. Most fold or slide under a sofa or bed when you're done.

The things to compare are top speed (most walking pads stop at 6 km/h, a brisk walk), maximum user weight, the belt size, how small it folds and how loud it is. If you want to jog as well, look for a 2-in-1 with a handrail and a higher top speed.

Pair one with a standing desk for walking while you work, track your steps with a fitness tracker, or see our home gym equipment guide for other kit.

Who this guide is for: People who work from home, want to walk more in winter, or have no room for a full treadmill. Check the maximum user weight, measure the space under your desk or sofa, and check your floor: a mat helps on wooden floors and in flats. If you have a health condition, check with a GP before starting a new exercise routine.

Black Friday tip: Walking pads are often reduced on Black Friday and again in January. Check the price history before you buy, and check the seller, as many listings are sold by the brand's own Amazon store. See our Black Friday deals page for how to check a deal.

Most walking pads stop at 6 km/h, a brisk walk. If you want to jog, choose a 2-in-1 with a handrail (Mobvoi SE or Pro, up to 12 km/h) or the Decathlon or Opti (up to 8 km/h). Never run on a pad designed for walking only.

Limits range from 100kg to 136kg here. Choose a pad with some headroom above your weight; it'll run more smoothly and last longer. If a listing and the manual disagree (as with the UREVO Smart), ask the seller first.

Measure the space under your desk and where you'll store it. Folding pads (WalkingPad P1 and Z1) take up the least floor space when stored; flat pads slide under a sofa or bed. For walking while you work, your desk needs to rise high enough for you to stand on the pad.

Quoted noise levels vary from under 45 dB to 60 dB. A treadmill mat reduces noise and protects floors, especially in flats. Use the safety key or auto-stop, keep children and pets away, and start slowly if you're new to walking at a desk.

FAQs

What's the best walking pad in the UK?

For most people, the WalkingPad P1: it folds in half to about 82cm long, arrives ready to use, and has an auto speed mode. On a budget, the UREVO Smart; for more cushioning and a 130kg limit, the Decathlon W500B at Argos.

Can you run on a walking pad?

Only if it's designed for it. Most walking pads stop at 6 km/h. The Mobvoi Home Treadmill SE and Pro run up to 12 km/h with the handrail up.

Are walking pads noisy?

They're quieter than full treadmills. WalkingPad quotes under 45 dB for the Z1 and Mobvoi quotes up to 60 dB for the SE. A mat helps on hard floors and upstairs.

Can I use a walking pad under any desk?

You need a standing desk, or a desk high enough to work at while standing on the pad. Check the pad's height (most are 10cm to 15cm) when setting your desk height.

Do walking pads need assembly?

Most arrive ready to use. The WalkingPad P1 and Z1 and the Decathlon W500B are listed as pre-assembled.
