How we chose: We compared popular cordless window vacuums on Amazon.co.uk from established brands, checking runtime, nozzle width, tank size, what's included, warranty and seller from listings and manufacturers. We looked for recurring themes in Amazon.co.uk owner feedback, especially streaks, leaks and battery life, and left out a popular budget model with frequent reports of leaking and early failure. Advice on damp and condensation comes from GOV.UK and the Energy Saving Trust. We have not personally tested these products; this is a research-based roundup. Our research process.
A window vacuum is a cordless squeegee with a small motor that sucks water into a tank as you draw it down the glass. On a winter morning it clears condensation from a whole window in a few seconds, without wet cloths on the sill or water running onto the frame, where it can lead to black mould. The same tool cleans windows with a spray bottle, keeps shower screens free of water spots and dries mirrors and tiles.
It's a quick fix for the symptom, not the cause. GOV.UK guidance describes condensation as the most common form of damp and says that removing surface moisture won't stop it coming back. If your windows are wet most mornings, work through the free fixes in our guide to stopping condensation on windows, and consider a dehumidifier to bring the humidity down.
Who this guide is for: Anyone with wet windows on winter mornings, especially in bedrooms, flats and older homes with single or older double glazing, plus anyone who wants streak-free shower screens and mirrors. It's a cheap, useful gift for new homeowners and renters too. If the problem is damp patches or mould on walls rather than wet glass, see our dehumidifier guide and, for cold rooms, our desiccant dehumidifier guide.
Black Friday tip: Black Friday is Friday 27 November 2026. If you need this now for the cold or damp, don’t wait weeks for a possible discount. If you can wait, our Black Friday home buying guide explains how to check price history and spot a genuine deal.

Owners say it's brilliant for removing condensation, good value and useful in wet rooms and bathrooms. Battery life and durability get mixed reviews, with a few reporting faults within months, so register it with Kärcher when it arrives. It has a 100ml dirty water tank, an LED battery display and 20 minutes of runtime, which is plenty for a morning condensation sweep of a flat or a few bedrooms. It's sold by Amazon with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
Owners say it's effective at removing condensation, especially from shower doors and tiles, easy to use and light enough for people with joint problems. Some find they need to charge it every other day. If you also want to clean all the windows in a bigger house, the WV 2's longer runtime is worth the extra.

The long-distance runner: Kärcher quotes 100 minutes of runtime, enough to do every window in a large house on one charge. It has the same 280mm nozzle as the WV 2 and an LED battery indicator, and the Plus kit includes a spray bottle with a microfibre cloth and 20ml of window cleaner concentrate. It's sold by Amazon.
Owners love the battery life, with one saying two complete house windows used only about a quarter of the charge, and say it makes window washing easy. Streaks, suction and leaks from the water collection tank get mixed feedback, so empty the tank before it gets full and keep the blade clean.

How to use a window vac on condensation
- Do it first thing, before the water runs down onto the frame and sill.
- Start at the top of the pane and pull the nozzle straight down in overlapping strips, tilted slightly.
- Wipe the bottom edge of the glass and the rubber seals with a dry cloth; that's where black mould usually starts.
- Empty the tank down the sink, not back into a plant pot, and let it dry with the cap off now and then.
- Open a window or trickle vent for a while afterwards so the moisture leaves the house rather than just moving from the glass to the walls.
If the tank fills every day, that's a lot of water in the air. Our dehumidifiers guide explains how to bring the humidity down, and our guide to stopping condensation on windows covers the free fixes first.
Window vac or dehumidifier?
They do different jobs. A window vac clears water that has already condensed on cold glass; a dehumidifier takes moisture out of the air so less condenses in the first place. GOV.UK's damp and mould guidance says condensation is best tackled through ventilation, heating and energy efficiency, and that removing surface mould or moisture won't stop it coming back. A window vac is a cheap daily tool; if you're filling it every morning, a dehumidifier will make the bigger difference.
Cleaning windows and shower screens

For washing rather than drying, spray the glass with diluted cleaner, scrub with the microfibre cloth and then vacuum the water off. Kärcher's own RM 500 concentrate is diluted in the spray bottle; owners say it leaves windows streak-free and is good value. Clean outside windows on a dull day, because direct sun dries the glass before you can vacuum it.
On shower screens, a quick pass after every shower stops limescale water spots building up and is the main reason many owners say they use their window vac every day.
Look after the battery
Window vacs use small lithium batteries. Charge with the supplied charger, store it indoors rather than in a cold garage, and don't leave it flat for months over summer. Kärcher's models show the battery level on an LED display, which makes it easy to top up before it runs out mid-window.
FAQs
Do window vacuums work for condensation?
Yes. They're one of the quickest ways to clear condensation from windows, sucking the water into a tank in seconds rather than leaving it on the sill. They don't stop condensation forming, so pair one with ventilation or a dehumidifier if your windows are wet most mornings.
Which Kärcher window vac should I buy?
The WV 2 suits most homes, with a 280mm nozzle and 35-minute runtime. The WV 1 is lighter and cheaper for a daily condensation sweep, and the WV 6 Plus has a 100-minute runtime for large houses.
Can you use a window vac on shower screens and mirrors?
Yes. Window vacs work on any smooth, water-resistant surface, including shower screens, mirrors and tiles. A quick pass after showering helps prevent water spots.
Does a window vac stop mould?
It helps by removing water before it soaks into frames and seals, but it doesn't fix the cause. GOV.UK guidance says condensation needs tackling through ventilation, heating and energy efficiency.
Should I wait for Black Friday to buy a window vac?
If your windows are wet now, we wouldn't wait. Every week of condensation on frames and sills raises the risk of mould, and window vacs are an inexpensive buy.
Do you get commission?
Yes. If you buy through our links, Amazon may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't affect which products we include. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
