How we chose: I shortlisted dishwashers from the brands most UK households buy, covering full-size 60cm freestanding models, 45cm slimline models and fully integrated models that sit behind a kitchen door. For each one I checked the manufacturer's UK product page or spec sheet for the energy class, the energy used per 100 Eco cycles, place settings, noise and dimensions. On 24 October 2026 I reopened every Amazon.co.uk listing with a UK delivery postcode to check it was the same model, in stock, with an add-to-basket button, and noted who sells it. I don't show prices, because they change daily. Running costs use the Ofgem price cap for October to December 2026. I haven't tested these dishwashers myself. These products have not been tested hands-on; this is a research-based roundup. How the research works.

Start with the type, because it decides what will fit. A freestanding dishwasher has its own finished top and sides and can go in any 60cm gap. A slimline model is 45cm wide and holds 9 or 10 place settings rather than 12 to 14. An integrated dishwasher has no front of its own: a door that matches your kitchen units is fixed to it, so it's hidden when closed.

Running costs vary more than you might expect. Across the ten dishwashers below, the energy label figure ranges from 63kWh to 94kWh per 100 Eco cycles. At today's price cap and around 280 washes a year, that's about £46 to £69 a year, or roughly 17p to 25p a wash. Most of the energy goes into heating the water, so the Eco programme is always the cheapest way to run any of them.

Replacing other appliances too? Our best washing machines, best tumble dryers and best fridge freezers guides compare running costs the same way, and our Black Friday appliance deals page lists dishwashers worth watching in the sales.

Who this guide is for: Anyone replacing a dishwasher, adding one to a kitchen for the first time or fitting out a new kitchen. Measure the gap (height, width and depth) and check where the water supply, waste and socket are before you choose. Integrated models need a matching door and usually a fitter.

Black Friday tip: Dishwashers are heavily promoted around Black Friday, but the same models are often just as cheap at other times. Note today's price, match the full model code (a letter can change the colour or the spec) and check the price history before you buy. Our Black Friday appliance deals page explains how to check a deal.

  • Freestanding (60cm): has its own top, sides and front, so it can go anywhere with a 60cm gap, water and a socket. The cheapest and easiest to replace. Usually 12 to 14 place settings.
  • Slimline (45cm): the same height and depth, but 45cm wide. Holds 9 or 10 place settings, which suits one or two people or a small kitchen.
  • Fully integrated: hidden behind a door that matches your units, with the controls on the top edge of the door. Comes in 60cm and 45cm widths. You need a door panel and usually a fitter.
  • Semi-integrated: has a visible control panel above a matching door. Less common now, so check the type carefully if you're replacing one.

You can't swap freestanding and integrated like for like. An integrated model has no finished sides or top, and a freestanding model won't take a kitchen door.

The UK dishwasher label gives the energy used per 100 Eco cycles. To get a yearly figure, I've assumed about 280 washes a year (just over five a week) and the Ofgem price cap of 26.32p per kWh (October to December 2026, Direct Debit average):

  • AEG FSB73427Z integrated slimline (63kWh): about £46 a year, about 17p a wash.
  • Bosch SMS4EKW06G (64kWh): about £47 a year, about 17p a wash.
  • Beko BDFN15440G (75kWh): about £55 a year, about 20p a wash.
  • Hisense HS523E15WUK slimline (76kWh): about £56 a year, about 20p a wash.
  • Bosch SPS2IKW01G slimline (78kWh): about £57 a year, about 21p a wash.
  • Bosch SMV2HTX02G integrated (84kWh): about £62 a year, about 22p a wash.
  • Samsung DW60CG550FSREU (85kWh): about £63 a year, about 22p a wash.
  • Bosch SMS26AW08G (92kWh): about £68 a year, about 24p a wash.
  • Hisense HS622E90WUK (93kWh): about £69 a year, about 24p a wash.
  • AEG FFX52607ZW (94kWh): about £69 a year, about 25p a wash.

*Figures are for the Eco programme. Hotter and quicker programmes use more. If you run the dishwasher more or less often, costs change in proportion. The price cap changes on 1 January: Ofgem announces the January to March 2027 cap on about 26 November, and I'll update these figures then.

Usually, if you run it full on the Eco programme. A modern dishwasher uses about 9 to 11 litres of water a wash, according to the makers' figures for the models above, which is less than many people use filling a sink twice. The saving depends on how you wash up and how you heat your water.

Noise figures range from 42dB to 48dB here. Under about 44dB is quiet enough for most open-plan kitchens. Every 3dB is roughly a doubling of sound energy, so the 42dB Bosch is noticeably quieter than a 48dB model. Delay timers let you run any of them overnight or while you're out.

Check that the gap is at least as wide as the dishwasher and a little taller than it, and that the water supply and waste are within reach of the hoses. Most freestanding dishwashers can be plugged in and connected by a confident DIYer, but integrated models need the door fitted and the height adjusted. Retailers' installation and old-appliance removal services vary, so check what the seller offers before you order.

  • Use Eco for everyday loads: it's slower but uses the least energy.
  • Scrape plates rather than rinsing them under the tap.
  • Top up rinse aid and dishwasher salt if you live in a hard water area.
  • Clean the filter every few weeks.

FAQs

What's the best dishwasher in the UK?

For most homes, the Bosch Series 4 SMS4EKW06G: a 13 place setting freestanding dishwasher that's class B, the quietest here at 42dB, and costs about £47 a year to run at the current price cap. The Hisense HS622E90WUK is the budget choice.

How much does a dishwasher cost to run?

At the October to December 2026 price cap of 26.32p per kWh and about 280 Eco washes a year, the dishwashers here cost from about £46 to £69 a year, or about 17p to 25p a wash.

What's the difference between integrated and freestanding dishwashers?

A freestanding dishwasher has its own finished front, sides and top. An integrated one is hidden behind a door that matches your kitchen units, and needs that door fitted. They're not interchangeable.

What size dishwasher do I need?

A full-size 60cm dishwasher holds 12 to 14 place settings and suits most families. A 45cm slimline holds 9 or 10 and suits one or two people or a small kitchen.

When will the running costs change?

The Ofgem price cap changes every three months. The current cap runs to 31 December 2026, and the January to March 2027 cap is announced on about 26 November. I'll update the running costs then.

Have you tested these dishwashers?

Yes. If you buy through links on this page, Amazon may pay me a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't affect which dishwashers are included. See the affiliate disclosure.
