How we chose: We compared popular robot vacuums on Amazon.co.uk from established brands, checking each listing's suction figure, navigation type, dock features, mop system, warranty and seller. We looked for recurring themes in Amazon.co.uk owner feedback, especially getting stuck, app reliability and hair tangling, and read Which?'s buying advice on what matters in a robot vacuum. We left out listings with conflicting specifications and models where owners frequently reported early failures. Suction figures are the makers' own and aren't directly comparable between brands. We have not personally tested these products; this is a research-based roundup. Our research process.

Robot vacuums are best at maintenance: a daily or every-other-day run that stops dust, crumbs and pet hair building up. Which? says even the best can't match a standard vacuum on carpets, and they struggle in corners, so you'll still need a cordless vacuum for stairs, edges and deep cleans. What they do brilliantly is keep floors looking tidy without you lifting a finger.

The three features that make the biggest difference day to day are navigation (LiDAR mapping cleans in neat rows and lets you set no-go zones), a self-emptying dock (so you're not emptying a tiny bin after every run) and an anti-tangle brush if you have pets or long hair. Mopping is a bonus for hard floors, but Which? only recommends robot mops for light spills.

Who this guide is for: Busy households, pet owners who are fed up with hair on hard floors, and anyone who wants floors kept tidy between proper cleans. They work best in homes with mostly hard floors or low-pile carpet and not too much floor clutter. If you have lots of deep-pile rugs, stairs or a cluttered layout, a cordless vacuum will do more for you. For pet accidents and muddy paw prints on carpet, see our carpet cleaners for pets.

The picks in detail

1
Best value self-emptying

Tapo RV30 Max Plus robot vacuum and mop with auto-empty dock

Best for: Most homes, especially with pets, on a mid-range budget

LiDAR

From TP-Link's Tapo smart-home range, this pairs LiDAR mapping with a self-emptying dock that holds a 3L sealed bag, which Tapo says lasts up to two months. You get room-by-room cleaning, no-go zones and virtual walls in the app, multi-floor maps, a mop and up to 22mm threshold climbing. It has a 3-year manufacturer warranty and is sold by Amazon.

Owners say it cleans hard floors and carpet brilliantly, is easy to set up, maps the house accurately and has advanced features for the price. Battery life gets mixed comments, and some owners say it gets stuck in places such as under TV stands, so set no-go zones around low furniture.

What owners and reviewers like

  • LiDAR mapping and no-go zones
  • Self-emptying dock
  • 3-year warranty

Watch-outs

  • Can get stuck under low furniture
  • Mixed battery feedback

2
Best budget for pet hair

eufy G50 robot vacuum with Pro-Detangle Comb

Best for: Pet owners who want a simple, affordable bot

Suction (maker's figure)
4,000Pa
Self-emptying
No (600ml bin)
Mop
No
Navigation
Sensor-based, no mapping

A straightforward vacuum-only robot from Anker's eufy brand. Its party trick at this level is a Pro-Detangle Comb that removes hair from the roller brush automatically, so you're not cutting hair off it every week. The 600ml bin is large for a bot without a dock, it's 8.1cm tall to get under sofas, and eufy quotes noise as low as 55dB. It connects to the eufy app over Bluetooth for scheduling. It's sold by AnkerDirect UK, Anker's own store.

It doesn't map your rooms, so it's best for one floor of a smaller home. eufy recommends turning on Random mode in the app for carpets. There's no mop and no self-empty dock.

What owners and reviewers like

  • Automatic hair detangling
  • Slim and quiet
  • Large bin for a budget bot

Watch-outs

  • No room mapping
  • No mop or self-empty dock

3
Best budget self-emptying

eufy C10 robot vacuum with self-emptying station

Point laser and infrared

One of the most affordable ways to get a self-emptying dock from a big brand. The C10 empties itself into a 3L bag that eufy says needs replacing about every 60 days, and it's just 2.85 inches (about 7.2cm) tall, so it reaches under beds and low sofas. It uses a point laser and infrared sensors for navigation and obstacle avoidance rather than full LiDAR mapping. eufy quotes up to 120 minutes of battery life. It's sold by AnkerDirect UK.

It's vacuum-only, with an edge brush for corners. If you want room maps, no-go zones and a mop, the Tapo above is the better buy for a little more.

What owners and reviewers like

  • Self-emptying at a budget level
  • Very slim body
  • Long claimed runtime

Watch-outs

  • No full LiDAR mapping
  • No mop

4
Best for long hair

roborock Q7 L5+ robot vacuum and mop with self-emptying dock

Best for: Homes with long-haired pets or people

Suction (maker's figure)
8,000Pa
Self-emptying
Yes, 2.7L bag (up to 7 weeks)
Mop
Yes, 3 water levels

LiDAR

roborock is one of the best-known robot vacuum brands, and the Q7 L5+ is one of its more affordable self-emptying models. It has 8,000Pa suction, a dual anti-tangle design (a JawScrapers main brush plus a side brush roborock says resists hair wrap, even from long-haired breeds), LiDAR mapping and a mop with three water-flow settings. The dock takes a 2.7L sealed bag that roborock says lasts up to seven weeks. It's sold by Roborock's official UK store.

Owners praise its vacuuming and mopping, smart, methodical navigation and easy set-up, with one noting it copes with spilled cat food. Some say it leaves dirt behind, and reliability gets mixed feedback, with a few reports of units failing after a few months, so register the warranty when it arrives.

What owners and reviewers like

  • Anti-tangle main and side brushes
  • LiDAR mapping
  • Self-emptying

Watch-outs

  • Some reliability complaints
  • Basic mop pad, not self-washing

5
Best all-in-one for pet homes

eufy C28 Omni robot vacuum with self-cleaning roller mop and all-in-one station

Best for: Hard-floor homes with pets that want the least maintenance

Suction (maker's figure)
15,000Pa
Self-emptying
Yes, 3L bag (up to 75 days)
Mop
Self-cleaning roller mop

LiDAR (no camera)

This is where robot vacuums start doing almost everything for you. The station empties dust into a 3L bag, washes the mop, dries it with 50°C hot air and collects the dirty water, and eufy says it handles most maintenance for up to 75 days. The 28cm roller mop is rinsed continuously while it works, and the DuoSpiral brush is designed to handle hair up to 30cm long without wrapping. It uses LiDAR without a camera, avoids obstacles of about 3cm and up, and lifts the mop on short carpets. It's sold by AnkerDirect UK.

It's a good choice if you have hard floors and pets and want mopping that's more than a damp wipe. The station is big, so check you have space for it near a socket. If you don't need mopping, a self-emptying vacuum-only model is much cheaper.

What owners and reviewers like

  • Station washes and dries the mop
  • Built for long hair
  • LiDAR without a camera

Watch-outs

  • Large station
  • Overkill for carpet-heavy homes

6
Best premium mopping

roborock Qrevo S Pro robot vacuum and mop with all-in-one dock

Best for: Larger homes with lots of hard floor

LiDAR with obstacle detection

roborock's step up: 18,500Pa suction, dual spinning mops that the dock washes at 75°C and dries with 45°C warm air, and a dust bag that roborock says lasts 7–9 weeks. It lifts its mops by 10mm on carpets and boosts suction automatically, has an all-rubber main brush and zero-tangle side brush for pet hair, and is low enough to get under many beds and sofas. It's sold by Roborock's official UK store.

Owners say it does an excellent job of vacuuming and mopping, maps homes quickly, is quiet and is competitively priced for what it does, with one noting it handles cat litter well. Obstacle avoidance gets mixed feedback, so pick up cables and socks before a run.

What owners and reviewers like

  • Very strong suction
  • Hot-wash and dry mop dock
  • Quiet, according to owners

Watch-outs

  • Obstacle avoidance not perfect
  • Big dock

3D 360° LiDAR

Shark's vacuum-only PowerDetect robot has a bagless base that holds about 60 days of debris, 3D LiDAR mapping and what Shark calls NeverStuck technology, which lifts the robot over thresholds, bumps and thicker carpets. It detects dirt, floor type and edges and adjusts how it cleans, and the base has an anti-allergen seal and anti-odour cartridge. It works with Alexa and Google, comes with a UK plug and is sold by Amazon.

Owners say it's easy to set up and impressive when it works well, but cleaning performance, mapping and Wi-Fi connectivity all get mixed feedback. It's a good option if your current robot keeps getting stranded on door strips or rug edges; otherwise the Tapo or roborock Q7 L5+ are safer value picks.

What owners and reviewers like

  • Climbs thresholds and thick rugs
  • Bagless 60-day base
  • Sold by Amazon

Watch-outs

  • Mixed mapping and Wi-Fi feedback
  • No mop

Do you need a self-emptying dock?

For most people, yes. Robot vacuum bins are small, and without a dock you'll be emptying it after most runs, especially with pets. Which? suggests that if you don't want a bulky dock, you should choose a robot with a bin of at least 0.5 litres. A self-emptying dock moves the mess into a bag or bin you deal with every few weeks instead, and bagged docks keep the dust sealed in, which helps if anyone in the house has allergies.

All-in-one stations, like those on the eufy C28 Omni and roborock Qrevo S Pro, also wash and dry the mop. They're worth it if you have lots of hard floor and want mopping without the faff, but they're bigger, cost more and need clean water topping up.

Navigation, apps and Wi-Fi

LiDAR robots spin a laser on top to map your home, then clean in neat rows and let you set no-go zones and clean room by room. Cheaper bots that bump around without mapping are fine for one open-plan floor but less efficient in a whole house.

Which? notes that most robot vacuums only work on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, so you may need to check your router settings during setup. Expect a bit of trial and error tweaking the map in the first week, and clear floor clutter before each run. If the robot keeps getting stuck under a particular piece of furniture, set a no-go zone there.

Robot mopping: what to expect

Robot mops are good for light, everyday grime on hard floors, like dust, footprints and dried drips. Which?'s tests found they often spread sticky spills such as jam and honey, so wipe big messes by hand first. Choose a model that lifts its mop on carpet (all the mopping picks here do) or remove the mop pad if you have lots of rugs.

Running costs and upkeep

Robot vacuums use little electricity, but budget for consumables: dust bags for the dock, filters, side brushes and mop pads. Check that replacements are easy to buy for the model you choose. Empty the dock bag when the app tells you, clean the sensors with a dry cloth now and then, and check the brushes for wrapped hair every few weeks, even on anti-tangle models.

FAQs

Are robot vacuums worth it in the UK?

Yes, for keeping hard floors and low carpets tidy between proper cleans, especially with pets. They don't replace a standard vacuum for stairs, corners or deep cleaning carpets, and they need a reasonably clutter-free floor.

What's the best robot vacuum for pet hair?

Look for an anti-tangle brush and a self-emptying dock. The eufy G50 is a good budget choice with an automatic detangling comb, the roborock Q7 L5+ is built for long hair, and the eufy C28 Omni adds a self-cleaning mop for hard floors.

Do robot vacuums work on carpet?

They work well on low and medium-pile carpet for daily maintenance, and many boost suction automatically on carpet. Which? found that even the best can't match a standard vacuum for deep cleaning carpets.

Is a self-emptying robot vacuum worth it?

Usually, yes. Without a dock you'll empty a small bin after most runs, especially with pets. A self-emptying dock means you only deal with a bag or bin every few weeks.

Do robot vacuums mop well?

They're good for light everyday grime on hard floors. Which? recommends wiping up sticky or large spills by hand, because robot mops can spread them.

Should I buy a robot vacuum on Black Friday?

If your current vacuum still works, there's no rush: check the price history and buy when the price is genuinely low. Match the exact model name, because brands sell many similar versions.

Do you get commission?

Yes. If you buy through our links, Amazon may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. It doesn't affect which products we include. See our Affiliate Disclosure.
